Perfect Your Proofing
Proof reading can be a major source of conflict between customers and the printshop.
Here is an article with an overview on how to proofread.
You are in a rush so you just glance at the proof. Guess what there is always time to rerun when the print job is a mess but never enough time to proof read it properly the first time. Here is some tips on how to do this. Remember you may need additional steps as well.
Proof the copy also known as text.
This where you start on the copy/ text. Review this for spelling are you using the correct dictionary and regional spelling. Then check the grammar, punctuation, and most importantly, accuracy of content. Making changes later in the design process will only slow things down, so make sure that everything is perfect before moving on to the next step.
Proof the images.

Check the proof
Viewing the images on your computer is a great place to start, but bear in mind that the colours shown on the screen will not be a perfect match to the colours that are finally printed. Be sure to check the size and resolution of the image. For high quality jobs, it is better to have a physical proof rather than just an on the screen proof of the images done on professional proofing equipment, you will get a better idea of the true colour of the piece.
Proof the pages.
Checking an entire page of an original can be done on screen, print out the page sometimes you can read it on the screen but it is too small or large on paper. Look over the typesetting, composition, image placement and text, as well as hyphenation and line line spacing, formats and bleeds.
Assumptions.
Don’t assume anything if you are worried about a washed out look or fuzzy picture or funny font question it before the job goes to print.
The difference between a thorough proofing process and a quick proof check is the time you may spend to redo a job. Do it right first time will save you time and money in the long run.

Down to earth report
How often have you read this in email signatures “Please consider our environment before printing this email”
Now a large paper company has researched this and one of the down to earth facts they have published is: “ On average it takes 500 kilowatt-hours of electricity to produce 440 lbs. of paper, the typical amount of paper each of us consumes annually. That’s the equivalent of powering one computer continuously for five months.” Now on its own this sounds wrong but they have released a study on this Click here for the link. So before we all think paperless office lets consider the other side of the argument.
Thank you International Paper for this report

We have devloped a “lite” version of our Kopyguard™ security paper. Instead of printing the hidden image over the whole sheet we have only printed a 54mm “Kopyguard” strip in the centre of the page.

The hidden image A4 lite Kopyguard
This picture shows what the paper will look like when copied; the paper has a grey strip in which the word “copy” is hidden. Our details have been removed from the paper so it can be resold without our details embedded in the hidden image.
The list price is R250 per thousand A4 sheets excluding VAT or R285 including VAT.
This is on normal office paper or in printer speak 80GSM white bond.
To launch this we will be selling the paper at R212.50 excluding VAT (a 15% discount) per thousand until the end of August 2009. This is a cash/eft on collection price.
Kopyguard “lite” can also be printed on other paper or board, for example we have printed it on our invoice paper and use it as a security feature of certificates. This will be priced on request.

Full colour Business Cards are the most economical type of cards available. Here are my prices from the website. This type of pricing is offered by a lot of printers and the quality is great. So now most business people use this service. So all the cards are bright look great so how can you stand out.
Well how about a trip back in time when full colour printing was expensive and most people had cards printed one or two colours on a text board. Then add to that a premium paper so you then get a subtle card on a paper with texture and character. I have just printed a bunch of cards like that.

The paper is called Saville Row and has a faint pinstripe in it. The paper suppliers describe it as “made of cellulose pulp, cotton and other natural fibres which combine to achieve the sought after elegance of pinstripe cloth”
Here the paper does the talking with an understated elegance. Everyone who sees them loves it. You can come and see the samples at the shop at 3 Corlett Drive Illovo. Just a word of warning the paper is expensive so it is not for people on a budget.

This is one case where understated simplicity is the best.
